Why are some worship services powerful and effective and some “just going through the motions?”
In both cases, God is there.
Then the problem must be on our end: our attitude, expectations, and/or desire to see God work must be present.

I am definitely about the bells and whistles – freely admit that. I was raised Lutheran (in Germany) which is like going to a funeral every Sunday. I converted to Eastern Orthodoxy – the theology got me there, the Divine Liturgy kept me there. I now attend a missional church where I probably feel most at home. I love the band – the music is a big part of why I love it. I connect to the world around me through music a lot…why should my connecting with God be any different. I miss some liturgical aspects of the EOC service, but am getting over it. Whenever I need a fix of the Divine Liturgy, I go to a local Russian Church.
Wow Kathrin…that is different…and cool. God certainly cannot be limited by denominational or cultural preferences!
